Description:
A leadership role responsible for providing direction and management of the Strategy & Evidence Gen Division in their area of expertise. Provides medical and clinical expertise in priority therapeutic areas and builds AZ scientific leadership. The MA Director is a member of the Brand Leadership Team (BLT) within One Brand Teams (OBT) in their areas of responsibility. They will provide significant input into Brand Strategy and LCM and take the lead in the design and implementation of medical activities aligned with Brand Strategy. The MA Director is responsible for leading the development of local Medical plan and Evidence Generation activities in their team, and collaborating with Confidence team for aligning medical strategies and providing significant input into confidence activity planned by MSL Manager / MSL. This role also has share the update and work on key progress with Medical Oncology TA Heads and other MA Director in Oncology Medical to work cross-functionally, and occasionally be involved at Medical Leadership Team. MA Director is expected to contribute to the team for the overall success of the Medical department across all functions and roles, and serves as cross-functional leader to drive innovation in Oncology area. This leader is responsible for people management and development and creating a high performing team. Proactively demonstrate the AZ Values.

Develop and implement the local medical plan to address unmet medical needs in priority disease areas and ensure alignment with the brand plan by close collaboration with OBU / GMA counterpart.
Develop and implement pre-launch medical plan/activities for new products 3 years prior to the planned launch in the country to address key clinical and scientific challenges
Participate as key member of brand team, R&D team and GMA counterparts as strategic partner towards LCM actions
Proactive crossfunctional collaboration with regulatory and other teams to realize earlier and broader patient access to new AZ medicines
Ensure that medical teams provide medical leadership on faculty and content development for medical programmes including national congresses, advisory boards, scientific exchange meetings, publications, Ensures medical teams develop and maintain relations with key professional associations/societies
Ensure medical teams provide AZ internal stakeholders with an understanding of the local medical community, clinical practice, trends and real or perceived gaps in current scientific knowledge and medical treatment, competitive intelligence
Ensure that the Medical Information provided both to external and internal customers is timely, accurate and scientifically balanced
Ensure that all members of the medical team have defined customer engagement objectives and external field time objectives. MSL, MA.
Responsible for hiring and development of Medical Affairs Managers, Associate Medical Affairs Managers, Scientific Leads and Medical Information strategy lead and oversight of hiring and carrier development of them.
Develop or initiate scientific programs to explore unmet medical needs in disease area(s)
Continuously demonstrate development of scientific expertise in disease area(s) of focus
Share the update of key progress and evaluation of their team with Oncology Medical head and Medical VP and work together for clarify the direction and progress

Contributing as core members in Oncology Medical and working as a member in cross-functional teams with BLT and JPT ; works closely with senior Medical colleagues to execute the Medical strategy
Ensure that medical function is a valued partner of commercial teams through effective internal communication, participation in senior management meetings, engagement and promotion of medical contributions
Presents issues with proposed solution to MLT and/or JLT as necessary
Establishes and implements policies, procedures and standards for own work and work of others, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards and regulations
Develops relationships with global medical colleagues to ensure alignment and up to date knowledge on global best practices
Active participation in global processes, systems and initiatives.

Thorough knowledge of and experience within the pharmaceutical industry (>5 years) and Medical function (>3 years)
Experience managing direct reports
Experience participating in global working groups
Experience in the field of Hematological Oncology

Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory developments, data science and digital innovation

Advanced Scientific Degree

Qualified Doctor, M.D.
PhD. In a scientific discipline

Strong Leadership & Communication capabilities
Strong presentation & influencing capabilities
Conceptual thought and strategic vision
Understanding of multiple aspects of Medical function

Fluent in English and Japanese speaking ability at level to participate in global working groups and present to Japan Leadership Team
