The Frozen Foods & Dairy Category Manager will serve as the subject matter expert and will support company-wide frozen foods and dairy procurement functions. This role is accountable for purchasing and the continued development and management of sales, inventory control, cost objectives and gross margin, assortment and placement, and promotional strategy within the defined categories. Key relationships across the business include warehouse management, marketing, operations, buying, and merchandising teams to help achieve category and company-wide business goals and objectives. This individual will be responsible for replenishment activity to ensure smooth product flow to store locations and work alongside store operations to support and communicate schematic requirements, manage all processes including but not limited to full-cycle details of buying, aging of product, out of stocks, credit activity, order accuracy, store merchandising and store SOP. In addition, the Category Manager will maintain vendor relationships/performance across the business and communicate effectively with our vendors through accurate and meaningful analysis to improve unadjusted fill rates, condition and quality and improve the profitability of the stores. Requirements: ? Minimum 3 years? experience as a Category Manager, ideally in a specialty food environment managing dairy categories ? Extensive frozen foods/dairy product category knowledge ? Minimum 2 years direct purchasing experience ? Must possess a ?foodie? attitude towards categories with an understanding of unique to conventional offerings ? Proven experience in quality assurance and functional knowledge and use of industry data (Neilson, IRI, and SPINS) ? Proven track record and history of margin achievement, category sales ? Effective negotiation skills with vendors ? Proven experience executing processes/projects from start to finish ? In tune with market trends and brings a ?first to market? attitude for specialty items ? Ability to adapt to small staff support, multi-task and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented, ?hands-on? work environment ? Passion to teach and train others ? Strong presentation skills both written and oral ? Attention to detail, financial acumen, and analytical skills ? Proficient analytical and computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MicroStrategy, Internet Browsers, various purchasing softwares. ? Excellent interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills a must ? Ability to work flexible schedule ? Store Management experience is a plus Primary Duties & Responsibilities: GENERAL ? Curate and maintain a brand quality-aligned assortment of product in dairy and frozen foods categories to maximize retail sales and profitability ? Work closely with Senior Merchandising Lead and/or upper management to ensure all product specifications meet guidelines, accuracy with regard to item inventory levels, product freshness, OOS, distributions, secondary vendor relationships and spec adherence to support store schematics ? Establish store merchandising standards and partner with store operations on all SOP processes. Thoroughly understand store operations in order to successfully manage categories. Including receiving procedures, reset chronology, backstock handling/tools, DSD issues/procedures, perpetual inventory/automatic replenishment principles ? Continually monitor and analyze data and category reviews ? Develop and maintain strong internal partnerships to meet business goals and objectives for categories. Collaborate with internal teams for category communication purposes, forecasting and category development. ? Integrate multiple planograms and schematics based upon size and demographics, implement price zones ? Coordinate dated product versus inventory turns ? Plan distributions and allocations, handle ?buy to? plans ? Create, build, and maintain end cap/ display plans ? Private Label: Understand and execute private label plays within category, sourcing, and product specification ? Develop and maintain online order processes and third party purchasing tools ? Assist in construction of wholesale spec document and receiving standards ? Weekly communication of forecast on target quantities to DM, SM, and Department heads ? Special ad-hoc projects, other reasonably assigned tasks and projects as per business needs PURCHASING/ VENDORS ? Establish and maintain vendor relationships, negotiate vendor contracts, pricing and cost of goods, handle logistic and product issues ? Adhere to receiving/delivery times and be aware of truck schedules for product delivery to stores ? Verify order times and compliance. Maintain order integrity. ? Maintain and handle all credit reporting, reconciliation of credits. ? Stay in tune to market trends, maintain awareness of competition assortments, pricing, and promotions FINANCIAL ACUMEN/ SALES PLANNING ? Establish and manage retail prices and gross profit margins to meet and exceed sales and profit targets ? Create price models for margin and target competitive pricing ? Financial acumen of set analysis: understand and execute sales/ gross profit per linear foot ? Utilize internal data for category performance (sales, margin, turns, days supply, etc). Review product lines and consistently make decisions on adding new items, shelf schematics, resets, merchandising and deleting slow moving items as necessary ? Handle and execute vendor deals/ promotions ? Conduct and maintain cost analysis on supply chain for all categories with regard to inbound/ outbound freight, up-charges, credit cost, and FOB pricing accuracy.
